Ruins of the monastery : Ruins of the monastery and church, Himmelpfort The monastery, Himmelpfort, were founded in the 13th century, and was home for monks of the Cistercian order. Abandoned military complex were : Abandoned military complex were during WWII partly used for testing of both captured Allied tanks and for testing new German tanks, partly for nuclear research. unfortunately the area were patrolled when we visited and we could not get to explore further than a few buildings.

In 1963 : In 1963, the Danish authorities began constructing one of the largest and most costly facilities in Denmark. Built deep in a lime pit blown into a hill, 60 metres down, they constructed a nuclear shelter to house the Royal family, members of the government, the head of defence and leading officials from the central administration should WW3 be a reality.
